A splendid upcountry spread routed in desert foothills high above the Sea of Cortes, this impressive Tom Fazio-designed course has graceful, flowing landforms designed to simulate rolling ocean waves. A well-balanced test framed by large sculpted bunkers, broad sandy arroyos and colorful flowering shrubs, Chileno Bay features back-to-back par 5’s at Nos. 6 and 7 as well as a pair of “driveable” short pars 4 at Nos. 8 and 11. One of the best-conditioned courses in Los Cabos, this otherwise-private club is accessible to guests of Chileno Bay Resort & Residences (Auberge Resorts Collection), which fronts a beautiful beach and swimmable waters.

Credited with placing Los Cabos on the international golf map when it debuted in 1994, the Ocean Course at Cabo del Sol, rebranded as the Cove Club in 2019, is a Jack Nicklaus-designed masterpiece ranked among the “World’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses” by Golf Digest. Now a members-only facility, the club recently debuted a few new holes, restyled bunkers, upgraded playing surfaces and colorful new landscaping. The centerpiece of a 1,800-acre master-planned resort community, the Cove Club stretches across a stunning desert landscape touched by the Sea of Cortes and framed by tall rugged mountains. The club offers limited access to unescorted guests.

A brilliant Davis Love III design carved into vast white sand hills perched above the Pacific Ocean, the Dunes Course is ranked No. 1 in Mexico by Golf Digest. The windswept, lay-of-the-land links skirts 50-foot dunes and huge blowout bunkers on its journey to and from the sea. Among the feature holes is the massive par-5 18th hole, which offers multiple landing areas and plays to a shelf-like green 50 feet above the fairway. Guests of the on-site Nobu Hotel and Hard Rock Hotel have exclusive access to the Dunes Course, subject to availability.

Tucked into a box-shaped canyon framed by stark peaks in the Sierra de la Laguna range, Palmilla is the landmark facility that set the stage for top-shelf golf in Los Cabos when it opened in 1992. The original 18 (Arroyo and Mountain nines), the first Jack Nicklaus Signature Design in Latin America, is a target-style test that hugs boulder-strewn arroyos, long waste bunkers and several ponds. Broad terraced fairways, generous bail-out areas and accessible greens accommodate players of lesser attainment. The club’s Ocean nine, added by Nicklaus in 1997, boasts a 600-foot elevation change and transports players from the mountains to the sea. This 27-hole club, featuring three 18-hole combinations, is located five minutes from One&Only Palmilla, a world-class resort.

Opened in 2014, El Cardonal is a scenic layout with an “Old California” design motif that marked the architectural debut of superstar Tiger Woods. Routed on higher ground than the Dunes Course, the layout meanders through sand dunes on the outgoing holes. The back nine, edged by desert vegetation, crisscrosses a series of arroyos. Bold, flashed-face bunkers create an array of strategic options. With its wide corridors and open-entry greens, El Cardonal was designed to appeal to golfers at all ability levels. Guests of the on-site Nobu Hotel and Hard Rock Hotel have exclusive access to El Cardonal, subject to availability.

Designer Tom Weiskopf routed the Desert Course (his first in Mexico) high above the glittering Sea of Cortes and Cabo del Sol’s resort community. Wide landing areas with few forced carries ensure an enjoyable experience for players at all ability levels, yet the course is sturdy enough from the back tees for tournament play. A strategic, well-balanced layout marked by an enticing blend of long and short holes, the Desert Course takes players on a memorable ride through cactus-covered foothills and canyon-like barrancas, with each hole offering a panoramic view of the sea. Shot-for-shot, golf aficionados rank the Desert Course among the finest and most complete tests of golf in Los Cabos.

Located on the East Cape 45 minutes from Los Cabos International Airport, Costa Palmas Golf Club, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., is available as an exclusive amenity to guests of the on-site Four Seasons Resort. Broad fairways and firm, fast conditions characterize the windswept, walker-friendly course, which sits high above the Sea of Cortes and sprawls across a links-style “dunescape.” Tall peaks in the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains frame the layout to the west. The golf club also features a six-hole, par-3 loop and a 30,000-square-foot putting course.

The verdant fairways on this Jack Nicklaus Design course, located 15 minutes from Los Cabos International Airport, are chiseled into rolling desert foothills that overlook the Sea of Cortes. Strategically-placed bunkers and sinuous arroyos snaking across the fairways call for careful course management. Campestre’s undulating, multi-tiered greens, among the most liberally contoured in Los Cabos, can be very challenging. Always in top condition, Campestre represents excellent value and is a local favorite.

The parkland-style layout, previously one of the longest and most challenging courses in Los Cabos, has been significantly remodeled. Now stretching to 6,852 yards (par 71) from the black tees, the Country Club compares favorably to golf courses in Palm Springs, California. Agustin Piza, a Mexican designer who has worked extensively throughout Latin America, altered several holes to improve sightlines and enhance playability. The club, readily accessible by area hotels and cruise ship passengers, also features the only lighted driving range in Los Cabos.

Situated on the outskirts of San Jose del Cabo, Puerto Los Cabos is a 27-hole facility with an 18-hole course by Jack Nicklaus; and a nine-hole layout by Greg Norman. While the club dates to 2007, Nicklaus unveiled his second nine in 2018. The new holes emulate the original design style: subtly contoured greens, large sculpted bunkers and dramatic elevation changes. The Norman Course, a 3,590-yard, par-36 layout, is equally dramatic. Large, flashed-faced bunkers, inspired by Melbourne’s Sandbelt courses, signpost the fairways and defend the greens. Complimentary snacks and refreshments are served at a pair of on-course palapas.

In a breathtaking setting at the tip of the Baja Peninsula, Quivira, the sixth Jack Nicklaus-designed in Los Cabos, is a triumph of engineering and an aesthetic tour de force. Marked by sheer granite cliffs, huge windswept dunes and rolling desert foothills, the layout has twisting arroyos, acres of cactus, lots of rock…in sum, a sampling of everything Cabo has to offer. After scaling the face of a mountain en route to the fifth tee, players are treated to glorious ocean views and dizzying drops from tee to fairway. An unforgettable test from any set of tees. Complimentary Mexican specialties and refreshments are served at the club’s comfort stations. Quivira is accessible to guests of Pueblo Bonito Golf & Spa Resorts.

A private golf community set in rugged desert foothills high above the Sea of Cortes, Querencia (loosely translated as “sanctuary”) is one of Mexico’s premier private clubs. Known for its slick, multi-tiered greens, this well-groomed course takes players on a roller-coaster ride across steep hills and bluffs, with several holes skirting the edges of deep canyons and rocky arroyos. Designer Tom Fazio’s aesthetic touch is evident at Querencia, with palm trees and lush vegetation artfully blended into the native desert border. Harmonious transitions from hole to hole mark this challenging yet playable course.

A naturalistic layout perched high above the Sea of Cortes, Twin Dolphin, walled in by tall mountains, features sweeping ocean views from every hole. The layout, built by Hall of Famer Fred Couples and Todd Eckenrode of Origins Golf Design, weaves around three major arroyos and makes excellent use of the terrain’s natural contours and rock outcrops. Sharp elevation changes, open-entry greens, broad rolling fairways and natural bunkering characterize the design. Twin Dolphin is a private club with exclusive access available to guests of Montage Los Cabos, a 122-room resort on Santa Maria Bay; and Montage Residences.

Solmar Golf Links in Cabo San Lucas, designed by Greg Norman, is a stunning oceanfront course blending Pacific panoramas, desert landscapes, and seamless fairways. Featuring Mexico’s only flat-faced revetted bunkers and Seadwarf paspalum turf for a true links experience, it’s home to the iconic island-green par-3 17th. Part of Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes, it offers world-class golf, breathtaking views, and even whale sightings. A must-visit destination for golf enthusiasts in Mexico.

The first golf course built in Los Cabos, this sporty nine-hole layout was conceived by a government tourism agency (FONATUR) to broaden the region’s appeal. Set on gently rolling terrain within a resort and residential development in San Jose del Cabo, this walker-friendly design features fine views of interior mountains and the Sea of Cortes.
